When Do I Need New Outlets?

Though homeowners utilize electricity on a very routine basis, we know it can be somewhat difficult to tell when you need new outlet installation or need to replace your outlets. Honestly there’s no real “exact” specification for replacing. But there are some very clear signs we’d recommend seeking outlet installation when:

  • You need more electrical access. While you can make some use of power strips or surge protectors, these were designed to be a temporary solution. Install an outlet, problem solved once for all!
  • Your outlets show clear signs of damage. Wear, discoloration & cracking are all obvious signs that you need new outlets. These present a very serious danger of electrical fire and need to be replaced right away.
  • Your outlets are ungrounded. Ungrounded outlets are the ones with the standard two plug slots, but lack the “ground” wire hole. These are no longer in code, and are an unnecessary danger to your home, so be sure to get new outlets installed if yours are ungrounded!

How Do I Install An Outlet?

  1. Connect wires per WIRING DIAGRAM.
  2. Side Wire: Remove insulation from each circuit conductor per strip gage on device [approx. 4/5" (20mm)]. Loop wires clockwise 3/4 turn around terminal screws. FIRMLY tighten screws over wire loop with the torque force among 14-16 in-lbf.
  3. Mount device in standard wall box with screws provided and mount wall plate.
  4. Restore power at circuit breaker or fuse. Installation is complete.

ATTENTION:

  • To prevent severe shock or electrocution always turn the power OFF at the service panel before working with wiring.
  • Do NOT install in wet locations or in a location where the receptacle can get splashed with liquid.
  • If you are not sure about any part of these instructions, consult an electrician.
